The Consul-General

Mr. Emmanuel Opeku is a seasoned diplomat with a distinguished career in the Foreign Service, spanning two and a half decades. He has diligently represented Ghana’s interests in various capacities, both domestically and internationally.

Before assuming his current role as Consul-General of Ghana in Hamburg, Emmanuel served as the Director for West Africa and ECOWAS at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. Throughout his public service career, he has undertaken diverse responsibilities within Ghana, including assignments at the Office of the President and the Passport Office.

Emmanuel has also served in four other diplomatic missions of Ghana. He began his diplomatic journey as a First Secretary at the Ghana Embassy in Bamako, Mali, and was later promoted to the position of Counsellor. He also held the position of Minister-Counsellor at Ghana’s Embassy in Washington D.C., U.S.A., and served as a Minister at the Ghana High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria. Prior to his current appointment, he served as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ghana Embassy in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Emmanuel holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Law and Geography from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as well as a Master’s degree in International Affairs from the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD) University of Ghana. He has actively participated in numerous courses and programs related to his profession, both within Ghana and abroad.

Married with two daughters, Emmanuel assumed his duties at the newly established Consulate-General in Hamburg in January 2023, following the issuance of his Exequatur by the First Mayor of Hamburg.
