RENUNCIATION OF GHANAIAN CITIZENSHIP

REQUIREMENTS
  • Completed Declaration of Renunciation of Citizenship of Ghana Form (Form 13)
  • Original German Assurance Letter;
  • Certified English translation of the German Assurance Letter;
  • A formal letter addressed to the Minister for the Interior, requesting for renunciation of Ghanaian citizenship and declaring that applicant is not indebted to the Government of Ghana;
  • Applicant’s Curriculum Vitae (CV), which must include the names and addresses of parents or any close relations living in Ghana;
  • Original Ghana Passport and photocopies of bio-data pages of said passport;
  • €200 fee
  • Photocopy of receipt of payment for Renunciation Form 13; and
  • Two (2) passport-size pictures.

Note: It must be pointed out that the renunciation becomes legal only after Ghana’s Minister of the Interior has issued a Certificate. 

ATTESTATION / LEGALIZATION OF DOCUMENTS

Public documents (such as Criminal Check Certificates, Marriage/Divorce Documents, and Birth/Death Certificates) issued by Ghanaian authorities for use abroad must go through the following process in Ghana before being presented at the Consulate for attestation:

  • Notarized by Notary Public in Ghana;
  • Certified by Judicial Service of Ghana; and
  • Attested by the Legal and Consular Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration (Submission of authentication documents should be within three (3) months from date of issue).

NOTE: Obtain a verification letter from the local registry in Ghana where the marriage was registered (Applicable for Customary Marriage/Divorce documents only).

REQUIREMENTS
  • Original and photocopy of Document to be attested;
  • Original and photocopy of bio-data page of applicant’s Ghana passport;
  • Two (2) passport-size photographs; and
  • €75 fee

POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE

For CRB checks in Ghana, please visit the online services portal of the Government of Ghana to access the Ghana Police Service and Criminal Investigations Department to Register, Apply and Pay via www.eservices.gov.gh and www.epayment.gov.gh respectively.

EMERGENCY TRAVEL CERTIFICATE

An Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC) is issued to a Ghanaian national, who does not have a Passport but must travel to Ghana at short notice or in an emergency. The document is for a single journey to Ghana only and thus, cannot be used for a return journey to Germany.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Completed Travel Certificate Application Form;
  • Letter requesting for issuance of the Emergency Travel Document;
  • Proof of Ghanaian Nationality (e.g., ECOWAS ID Card, photocopy of Ghana passport, original birth certificate, or baptismal certificate);
  • Evidence of impending travel (e.g., flight ticket);
  • Two (2) passport photographs; and for
  • Medical cases, a letter from a hospital or a reputable medical practitioner.
  • €60 fee

NOTE: Applicants would be required to attend an interview at the Consulate before the application could be considered.
